8 week Mindfulness Course

The 8 week mindfulness course  will teach you simple, practical skills to enable you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings.

In any situation, including challenging ones, you will be able to choose how to respond rather than being pulled into unhelpful stress reactions.

Completing a mindfulness course will enable you to:

  • steady and calm yourself
  • gain a broader perspective
  • make better choices when you are stressed, anxious or frustrated
  • be less reactive

Rather than feeling taken over by frustration or worrying thoughts, mindfulness provides a structured way to create a pause and to calm yourself.  This can have a profoundly positive impact on how you behave, perform at work and feel about yourself.

People attending a mindfulness course report lasting benefits such as:

  • more energy
  • a greater capacity for joy and happiness
  • a quieter, calmer, more focused mind
  • an increased ability to relax and sleep well
  • more self confidence
  • an increased ability to handle stressful thoughts, feelings and situation

The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends completing an 8 week mindfulness course for the treatment of anxiety, stress and depression and for promoting well-being.  This is due to the growing scientific evidence which supports the effectiveness of mindfulness approaches.

The mindfulness course includes:

  • 8 weekly x 2 hours sessions and a day retreat
  • a course handbook
  • a collection of guided audio mindfulness downloads

You will learn a variety of mindfulness practices and will be supported to practice these at home in between the course sessions.

The home practice forms an important part of this mindfulness course.  There is an opportunity in each session to talk about your experiences of practicing at home, any obstacles that arise and how to deal with them skillfully.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has gained prominence in the world medical community as an effective approach to the growing problem of stress and anxiety.

In the UK, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) has been developed to assist people who have suffered repeat episodes of depression.

The mindfulness course that I teach, uses elements from both MBSR and MBCT programs to enable anyone to deal more skillfully with the stresses and strains of daily living and to increase joy and happiness in their lives.

By learning to pause, step back and see your situation more clearly mindfulness allows you to fully appreciate the positive and joyful events in your life.  It also allows you to make wiser, more supportive choices in times of difficulty.
