Counselling & Psychotherapy for Children

Counselling for Children – Maidenhead

My name is Gayle Creasey and I offer psychotherapy and counselling for children in Maidenhead (SL6 7JR).

I provide counselling for children and young people aged 5-20 years.

Covid 19 Update: I am currently offering both online and in person counselling sessions.  Please do get in touch if you have questions about how online sessions could work for your child.

I qualified from the Institute for Therapy in Arts and Education in 2007 and have been accredited with the UKCP since 2010.

Your child is welcome to come for a single session or for as long as s/he feels helpful. I offer daytime, after school and evening counselling sessions Mondays to Thursday between 9am- 7pm.

Common issues in counselling for children:

Counselling for children covers many areas and I have extensive experience of supporting children with the following issues:

  • anxiety/ worries
  • angry & aggressive behaviour
  • lack of concentration
  • low confidence/ self-esteem
  • eating issues
  • exam stresses
  • friendship issues
  • family difficulties
  • parental separation/ divorce
  • sleep problems
  • sexuality issues
  • trauma & abuse

How I can help your child:

All young people face stresses and pressures these days.  From school work, exams, social media, friendships, thoughts about their future, family difficulties and the natural but complex changes they undergo as they mature.
It can be hard for children to know what to do with their difficult thoughts and feelings.  As a parent you naturally want to help and yet it is hard to know what to do or say sometimes.  You may feel that you have tried everything.   This is where psychotherapy and counselling for children can help.
My role is to offer your child a safe, encouraging and friendly space to explore what is going on for them.  By helping your child to find their way again, I hope to be able to allow you to stop worrying.

Creative arts psychotherapy and counselling for children uses art materials and play.  Some young people can find it really hard to find the words to explain what they are feeling and thinking.  For some, using art materials can offer a different way into their experience and new insight into the feelings and issues affecting their well being.

What is creative arts counselling for children?

Your child may choose to explore his/her thoughts and feelings using:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • sand tray
  • clay
  • music
  • poetry
  • puppets

Each of these creative arts offers a way to externalise, reflect on and find a new language for thoughts and feelings.    Your child does not need to feel creative or good at art.  Using the creative arts may help them to find a new, unexpected language for what they are feeling.  It is this language which is important, not being artistic.  In some, or all, of their sessions your child may just want to talk and I will always be guided by them.

I have a private practice in Maidenhead (SL6 7JR) and offer counselling for children between 9am – 7pm Monday to Thursday.
